2024 BC NDP My BC Survey

Our BC NDP government has stepped up to get things done for people. We’ve taken bold action on housing, and are finding ways to build more middle income homes for families, while taking on the speculators who flip homes just to make a profit. We’re hiring more doctors and nurses, and making our public services stronger so people can count on them. And in the face of many challenges, there’s more to do to make life better for everyone.

It’s an election year in BC and people are counting on David Eby and our BC NDP MLAs to be in their corner and to keep working for them. We don’t do this work alone — we do it with the support of New Democrats from all over the province who are fighting for a better future.

We’ve heard from British Columbians — housing is the biggest challenge many people are facing today. That’s why David Eby and the BCNDP government has stepped up to tackle the housing crisis. Which actions do you think have most impacted your area? Select as many as apply.

Building 9,000 new homes affordable for middle income families. Reining in short term rentals, like AirBnB, to turn more units into long-term homes for people. Making it easier and faster to build homes near transit to create more liveable communities. Removing zoning barriers to build more small-scale, multi-unit housing that people can actually afford. Introducing the speculation and vacancy tax and turning 20,000 empty units into homes, and expanding it to more communities to alleviate housing shortages in more places. Increasing the foreign buyers tax to 20 percent to curb speculation and price spikes and make sure homes don’t sit empty. Stopping illegal renovictions to provide tenants greater peace of mind and stability. Providing a $400 tax credit to eligible renters.

We know things have been tough for people as we face global inflation. Which action from the BCNDP do you think has had the biggest impact helping people with costs? Select as many as apply.

Creating the largest middle-class tax reduction with the full elimination of MSP premiums. Increasing the BC Family Benefit with a new bonus to provide more relief to family budgets. Removing unfair tolls from the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges to save commuters up to $1,500 a year. Slashing ICBC rates by an average of 20 percent and issuing rebates to drivers, and freezing rates saving drivers $500 on average a year. Reducing childcare fees by about 50 percent when compared to 2019 costs. Making prescription birth control free to anyone who needs it, which provides a lifetime savings of around $10,000. Offering free transit to children under the age of 12 to put up to $700 back in family budgets every year. Eliminating interest on British Columbia student loans to make things fairer for everyone. Providing free school meals to kids to help relieve costs for parents.
