We’re making employment safer for young workers

BC’s youngest workers are among our most vulnerable. We need to make sure they’re safe and protected when they enter the workforce.
That’s why we upped the age when young people can start working to 15 from 12 — and why we changed our employment standards to better protect workers aged 16 to 18 too.
New standards will ensure that young people are doing age appropriate work, and that safety and training is the number one priority on job sites. Plus, we’re limiting the types of work they can do so that they’re not doing hazardous work.
No one should get hurt on the job — but it’s our responsibility protect working teenagers and make sure they’re not exploited.
