Help protect kids against Big Tobacco’s newest scheme
Health experts agree: Kids shouldn’t be using tobacco or nicotine.
So, why are big tobacco companies continuing to sell products that target them?
We know that tobacco use comes with all sorts of dangerous health risks, and that nicotine is a highly-addictive chemical with long-term health impacts of its own.
And even though tobacco companies say they aren’t targeting kids with products like flavoured nicotine pouches and candy-scented vapes, more kids are consuming these products than ever before. Plus, products like Zonnic, owned by Imperial Tobacco, exploit a federal loophole to get around age restrictions. It’s not okay.
Our BC NDP government is making it even harder for kids to purchase nicotine pouches by putting them behind the counter at pharmacies — as we push Ottawa to close the loophole. We’ve also launched new education campaigns in schools about the health risks of vaping, and implemented restrictions on vape sales, including plain packaging and health warning labels.
Big tobacco companies have a long history of trying to convince kids to use their products. We’re doing what we can to make sure their tactics don’t work in BC.
